The Books That Found Me This Summer

Some I couldn't put down. Others are patiently waiting for the right afternoon.

There are certain books that become part of a season. Months later, you won't just remember the story. You'll remember where you were when you read it.

This summer, my books traveled everywhere with me. They came along on vacations and road trips, tucked into my tote beside sunscreen and a well-worn bookmark. They sat on the porch during slow mornings and waited patiently on the kitchen counter while dinner simmered on the stove. I listened to audiobooks while folding laundry, watering the garden, running errands, and tidying the house, letting chapters unfold during the ordinary moments that quietly make up a summer.

Some afternoons I found an uninterrupted hour to disappear into a novel. Other days, it was only ten quiet minutes before someone needed something or another load of towels was ready for the dryer. Reading looks a little different in this season of life. It isn't always a quiet afternoon in a cozy chair. More often, it's woven into vacations, camp drop-offs, grocery runs, evening walks, and the comforting rhythm of home.

Looking back, these are the stories that shaped my summer. Some completely swept me away. Others surprised me when I least expected it. And beside my favorite chair is a stack that still holds the promise of a few more golden afternoons before autumn arrives.

I'm not quite ready to let summer go. There are still pages to turn, stories to discover, and long evenings that seem to linger just a little longer. For now, I'm holding onto the season the best way I know how. One book at a time.

So I'll squeeze in one more afternoon outside, one more audiobook while I tackle the laundry, and maybe one more evening on the porch before the blankets come out.

Then I'll happily welcome fall with an entirely new stack of books.
